Born in Chicago in 1937, Roger Smith answers Broch’s questions about life as a child in the 30’s and 40’s, about hobbies and pets, first jobs and cars, favorite subjects in school and family traditions.

Brian Massey interviews Dan to gain his insight into human behavior and help us solve some of the problems we solve every day
as marketers, businessmen and, in general, persuaders trying to influence our prospects decisions.

Dan is the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Behavioral Economics at MIT, where he holds a joint appointment between MIG’s Media Laboratory and the
Sloan School of Management. He is also a researcher at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and a visiting professor at Duke University,
where he is calling us from. Ariely wrote his book while he was a fellow at the Insitute for Advance Study at Princeton.

Bootstrap FilmFest

Bootstrap held its first Bootstrap FilmFest on June 26, 2008. Five films by Bootstrap Film members were featured: Little Dove, Open House, Snake Pit, Art Erotica and Mystic Cab. Bootstrap member, BSide powered the film fest website.

This BootRap Podcast includes an introduction by Bootstrap Film Subgroup lead, Brandy Rainey Amstel and a dialogue with the filmmakers: Nils Juul-Hansen (Mystic Cab - director), Jason Howell (Art Erotica), James Mays (Mystic Cab - actor) and Bijoy Goswami (Mystic Cab - writer/actor).

The bootstrap filmmakers share their stories of bootstrapping their films, leveraging social capital with an effective value 10x more than the cash budget, how constraint creates innovation, demo/sell/build, the difference between a “bootstrapper who makes films” vs a “filmmaker who bootstraps,” bootstrap vs indie filmmaking, stages of bootstrap, and distribution.

David Galenson speaks with Bootstrap Art

David Galenson, author of Old Masters and Young Geniuses, spoke with the the Bootstrap Art Subgroup. Marcy Hoen, Bootstrap Contributor and founder of Austin Art Start, interviewed David. Bootstrap Art member Dara Chambers shared her reactions on the Bootstrap Austin Blog. Beyond art, a bootstrap analogy was struck, particularly that Galenson’s old masters/experimentalists correspond to bootstrappers, while young geniuses/conceptualists are similar to funding-driven entrepreneurs.
